Red Crescent Sindh Offers Joint Strategy to Tackle Heat Wave Threats in Karachi

Karachi, April 17, 2025 — In light of the growing threat of heat waves due to ongoing climate change, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (Sindh) has formally written to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs), and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across Karachi, proposing a joint action plan to protect citizens.

The letter, dated April 16, 2025, emphasizes the urgency of organizing Heat Wave Treatment Camps in different areas of Karachi during the peak summer season. It acknowledges past collaborative efforts and seeks to enhance them further this year amid increasing temperatures forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Red Crescent Sindh has offered its trained volunteers (First Aid and Paramedics)ambulance services, and free awareness training sessions aimed at educating both administrative staff and volunteers on how to prevent heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Kanwar Waseem, the Provincial Secretary of Red Crescent Sindh, stated in the letter, “We assure that with the joint collaboration of your Organization, we can save lives and prevent illness to the needy people from this hot weather.”

The initiative is a timely reminder of the importance of community collaboration and preparedness to address the rising challenges of climate change, particularly in urban centers like Karachi where heat waves have become increasingly frequent and deadly.
